The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issue star ratings for Medicare Advantage plans each year. The star rating system uses quality measurements to provide an objective evaluation. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is rated based on the performance of its Medicare Plus Blue plans. Blue Care Network receives a separate star rating based on performance of its BCN Advantage plans.

Blue Cross and BCN work with providers to make sure members receive appropriate and timely care, that chronic conditions are well managed, that members are pleased with the level of service from their health plan and care providers and that we follow CMS operational and marketing requirements.

How are star ratings determined?

Star ratings are based on many factors, including:

• Quality of services based on more than 30 Medicare Part C and Part D measures
• Member surveys administered by Medicare-approved vendors
• Information from doctors
• Information we report to CMS
• Results from Medicare's monitoring activities
