How HMOs work
With an HMO network, your employees choose a primary care physician, or PCP, to help organize their care. PCPs refer your employees to specialists when needed. This helps keep costs low for your company by reducing unnecessary visits.
Visits to health care professionals outside of the network aren't typically covered by insurance. But your employees can see obstetrician-gynecologists, behavioral health professionals and get emergency care from out-of-network providers. This flexibility lets your employees get important care when and where they need it.
Our Blue Care Network has 6,000 PCPs, 24,000 specialists and 133 acute care hospitals throughout Michigan for your employees to choose from.
