Ronald Bieber is the president of the Michigan State AFL-CIO. Previously, Bieber served as the director of the UAW’s Community Action program. Prior to that he was the assistant director of the UAW’s General Motors department. Bieber joined UAW Local 730 at the age of 18 and has held numerous positions in UAW International throughout his career. Mr. Bieber serves on several boards, including Michigan Association of United Ways, Economic Alliance of Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO and Workforce Development Institute.
Karen Cheeseman is the president and CEO of Mackinac Straits Health System. Cheeseman is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, Great Lakes Chapter of Health Care Executives, National Rural Health Association, American Hospital Association; and serves on the Certificate of Need Commission, the Michigan Health and Hospital Association Board of Trustees, the Upper Peninsula Health Care Solutions Board of Trustees and Community Health Access Coalition Board.
Roz Cooperman is the president of Roz Lullove Cooperman, LLC, a creative consulting company, providing resources and talent to organizations in media, branding and consumer engagement in several industries. Cooperman previously served as a board member for several organizations, such as the Southfield Community Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Selective Service System and the International Women’s Forum. She is also a former trustee for the Michigan Opera Theatre and the recipient of the International Institute Ambassador Award.
Shauna Ryder Diggs, M.D. is a board-certified dermatologist and the president and owner of Shauna Ryder Diggs, M.D., P.C. She is Regent Emerita, University of Michigan Board of Regents; emeritus chair of the Association of Governing Boards of Colleges and Universities; and member of the Michigan Opera Theatre and Belle Isle Conservancy boards. Dr. Diggs also serves as chair of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation Board.
Christopher Maksym, Pharm.D., retired in 2017 as Director of Pharmacy and Operations, HomeMed for Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan, and in 2020 as adjunct clinical associate professor of pharmacy at the university’s College of Pharmacy. Maksym serves on the National Home Infusion Foundation Board of Directors, Access Infusion Care, Inc. Board of Directors, Infusion Journal Editorial Advisory Board and is a trustee of the Michigan Pharmacy Foundation.
Demmy McBride is Executive Director, Benefits, for Ford Motor Company. McBride serves on the board of directors for the Economic Alliance for Michigan and the customer advisory councils for Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (NCAC), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and the National Alliance for Health Care Purchaser Coalitions.
Gary McInerney is owner of McInerney & Associates, a Grand Rapids-based law firm. McInerney previously participated in the Kent County Convention and Arena Authority and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He’s also served on numerous Michigan Bar Association committees and serves on the Folds of Honor Board of Directors and the Emergent Holdings, Inc. Board.
Anne Mervenne is president of Mervenne & Company, a public affairs consultancy. She previously served as co-director of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University. She currently serves as chair of the Board of Directors of the Detroit Public Safety Foundation and is a member of the national board of the Private Directors Association. She also serves on the Michigan State Board of Ethics, serves as the vice-chair of the Michigan Council of Maternal and Child Health and is a member of the International Women’s Forum. Her prior board service includes the Citizens Research Council of Michigan and the Michigan Community Service Commission. She has been appointed to boards and commissions by four governors of Michigan.
Susanne Mitchell retired in 2019 as director of the International Union, UAW – Social Security Department. She previously served on the National Institute of Health Care Reform Board. Mitchell was also previously a member of the AFL-CIO Health Care and Retirement working group and the Economic Alliance of Michigan Health Care working group.
Brian Peters serves as CEO at the Michigan Health & Hospital Association, one of the nation’s largest state hospital associations. In 2021, the MHA was recognized as one of Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare. In his 35 years with the MHA, Brian has served as a frequent spokesperson on behalf of Michigan hospitals with the print and electronic media and has testified on hospital priorities before Congress and the state legislature. In addition to BCBSM, Brian serves on the governing boards of the MHA and the American Hospital Association. Brian is a United States Coast Guard-licensed Captain.
Renee Turner-Bailey retired as director of the Social Security Department for the International Union, UAW. In addition to her work with the UAW, Ms. Turner-Bailey has served on the Michigan Certificate of Need Commission, appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer; the National Institute for Health Care Reform Board, and the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalition’s Race, Health, and Equity Advisory Committee.
Janice Uhlig is vice president, Global Total Rewards for General Motors. Uhlig is a member of the Detroit Athletic Club, the Center on Executive Compensation Advisory Board and former board member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Business Group on Health.
