Visiting a new doctor can be a little scary. But it doesn't have to be. If you prepare ahead of time, you can make sure your first visit is as easy and stress-free as possible.

Any time you go to see a doctor, there are a few things you should bring:

  • Your insurance card
  • A valid photo ID
  • A list of any medications you're taking

If you're seeing a doctor for the first time, you'll want to bring some additional information:

  • Your medical history
  • A list of specialists you've seen
  • Any questions you may have
If you'd like a printable list of these helpful things to remember, you can print our checklist for preparing for your first appointment (PDF)

Your primary care physician will be responsible for coordinating your medical care, and keeping all your health records. If you're visiting a primary care physician for the first time, you'll want to make sure you have all the items listed above.
