The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association is a national federation of 34 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross Blue Shield companies. The Association owns and manages the Blue Cross Blue Shield trademarks and names in more than 170 countries and territories around the world. The Association also grants licenses to independent companies to use the trademarks and names in exclusive geographic areas.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is licensed by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. That means we’re able to sell products and services under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield names.
As an independent licensee of the Association, we’re required to tell you the following disclosure statements:
- The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association licenses Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to offer certain products and services under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield names.
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is an independent organization governed by its own board of directors and solely responsible for its own debts and other obligations. Neither the Association nor any other organization using the Blue Cross or Blue Shield brands acts as a guarantor of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s obligations.
- By April 15 of each year, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan must file an annual report with the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services. A full copy of the most recent audited financial statement is available upon request at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s corporate headquarters.
