What is a member advocate?

Member advocates are well-versed on the benefits and programs available to your employees. They use that knowledge to provide a personalized, high-touch experience. They’re trained to be a proactive partner that works with your employees to improve their health, understanding and usage of their benefits. Members will find out how to find and obtain care. Member advocates also help your employees: 

  • Find a doctor and schedule appointments  
  • Resolve claims and benefit issues 
  • Navigate their choices for care 
  • Access personalized care and services to meet specific needs 
  • Connect to care teams or care advocates for non-urgent illnesses or chronic and complex conditions 

Seamless connections to Blue Cross and non-Blue Cross benefits and programs 

With their Blue Cross plan, your employees will have access to various benefits and programs to promote and facilitate better physical, mental and emotional health.

As an employer, you may also offer non-Blue Cross benefits and programs to your employees. With a long list of benefits and programs available, it can be challenging for your employees to understand the ins and outs of everything available to them. Like Advocate, your employees will have full access to the BCBSM Coordinated Care app with Advocate Plus. The BCBSM Coordinated Care app gives all your employees and their family members quick and convenient access to member advocates and nurse care managers for those that are eligible. Whether at home or on the go, your employees can use the app to: 

  • Receive guidance for non-urgent illness and injury from a care advocate 
  • Set appointment reminders and track medications 
  • Access to a resource guide to help employees review all their benefits in one spot
  • View helpful articles and videos directly related to their personal needs 
  • Securely message a care advocate, nurse care manager or member advocate

Your employees will be given a specific access code that unlocks an app experience tailored to their needs and the specific plans and programs available to them. 

How do my employees connect with a member advocate?

Like the Advocate offering, your employees will have access to the BCBSM Coordinated Care app with Advocate Plus. The BCBSM Coordinated Care app gives all your employees and their family members quick and convenient access to member advocates. Your employees can use the app to securely message a member advocate to get their questions answered.

Your employees will also be provided a phone number to reach member advocates during business hours.
