Find the answers to some common questions about Win by Losing, our workplace weight-loss program.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan launched Win by Losing in August 2009. The nine-week weight loss competition encourages participants to take steps toward a healthier lifestyle through weight loss. Win by Losing offers two rounds each year, one in the spring and one in the fall.

Through 29 rounds of Win by Losing, participants have shed over 214,000 pounds. While that’s an impressive amount of weight loss, it’s even more important that participants have worked together, embraced a healthier lifestyle, and met their health goals.

No. Win by Losing is a competition between employees from active Blue Cross customers.

All employees are eligible to participate, not just those who are Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan or Blue Care Network members. Participants who are Blue Cross members can register for an online account at bcbsm.com and get extra support including a health assessment, coaching programs and discounts on groceries, workout wear and fitness memberships.

During the registration timeframe, a Registration tab will be live on the Home page. The team captain will gather the starting weight of each team member and then complete the registration form and submit it. If you have issues with registration, contact us at WinByLosing@bcbsm.com

During the competition, a Submit Weight tab will be live on the Home page. The team captain will gather the pounds lost or gained each week and submit a total for the team each Friday. The submission should be pounds lost or gained, not a new team total weight. If you have issues with submission, contact us at WinByLosing@bcbsm.com.

The team with the largest percentage of weight loss at the end of the competition wins. Besides achieving a new, healthier lifestyle, each winning team gets an official Win by Losing trophy to display in their office.
