Mental health and substance use disorder

Blue Care Network behavioral health services do not require a referral from the member's primary care physician. However, the PCP can recommend a Blue Care Network-affiliated behavioral health provider to the member. The member can also initiate services by making an appointment with a Blue Care Network behavioral health provider. A list of Blue Care Network behavioral health providers is available at Find a Doctor. Members can also call the behavioral health phone number on the back of their ID card. The behavioral health provider must call Blue Care Network for an authorization.

Provider inquiry

As of July 14, 2017, all professional providers will now need to contact PARS (Provider Automated Response System) to obtain claims information. The hours that a provider will be able to transfer to a provider servicing representative are unchanged, however PARS can provide claims status and eligibility and benefits information 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Behavioral Health business hours are Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for the ombudsman phone number (1-888-265-4703), which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
