  • Schedule your child’s first appointment with the dentist when their first tooth appears.
  • Teach your child to drink from an open cup by their first birthday.
  • First molars and eye teeth come in between 16 and 20 months.
  • Healthy foods make teeth strong.
  • Take your child to the dentist to check for early cavities.
  • Brush your child's teeth two times a day.
  • Be sure to check with your dentist or pediatrician before using toothpaste with fluoride.

Healthy eating

Be sure to feed your child from the five major food groups:

  • Breads, cereals and other grains
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Meat, chicken, fish, beans, eggs
  • Milk, cheese, yogurt
