- Schedule your child’s first appointment with the dentist when their first tooth appears.
- Teach your child to drink from an open cup by their first birthday.
- First molars and eye teeth come in between 16 and 20 months.
- Healthy foods make teeth strong.
- Take your child to the dentist to check for early cavities.
- Brush your child's teeth two times a day.
- Be sure to check with your dentist or pediatrician before using toothpaste with fluoride.
Healthy eating
Be sure to feed your child from the five major food groups:
- Breads, cereals and other grains
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Meat, chicken, fish, beans, eggs
- Milk, cheese, yogurt
