One of the best things you can do to stay healthy is identify medical risks as early as possible. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network members can take advantage of specialized resources to treat medical problems before it's too late.
Alcohol
How much do you drink? Does drinking impact your ability to lead a healthy life? To see if you've got a problem, take the alcohol screening test.
You can also perform the CAGE assessment. It's just four questions:
- C - Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drinking?
- A - Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
- G - Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your drinking?
- E - Eye opener: Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?
If you answer yes to two or more of the questions, we encourage you to talk to your doctor about your alcohol use.
Development screening
Is your child acquiring basic skills at the appropriate time? The Centers for Disease Control offers information, tools and tips to track your child's development.
Diabetes screening
The American Diabetes Association's Diabetes Risk Test is a useful tool to see if you are at risk for developing diabetes. Blue Care Network members: For more information, call 1-800-637-2972 to request our brochure, "Diabetes: What's your risk?"
