Out-of-network coinsurance

Also known as: out-of-panel or nonpanel coinsurance

Out-of-network coinsurance is a percentage you pay for the allowed amount for services you receive from providers (for example, doctors and hospitals) who are not in your health plan's network. Your health carrier pays the remaining percentage.

Out-of-network coinsurance will usually cost more than your in-network coinsurance because out-of-network providers typically won't offer the same discounts as in-network providers.
