Urgent Care

Who is this for?

If you're a Blue Care Network (HMO) plan member, this information will help you know how to get urgent care treatment while you're traveling.

As an Blue Care Network (HMO) plan member, you can get urgent care outside of Michigan through BlueCard®.  BlueCard is a Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association program that gives you access to doctors anywhere within the United States and outside of Michigan where a Blue plan is offered.

You know you need urgent care if you have an injury or illness that requires immediate diagnosis and treatment such as a fever, earache, most fractures, sprains, most lacerations, repeated kidney stones and dizziness.

If you are traveling outside of Michigan, but in the United States,

  1. Call BlueCard’s 24-hour telephone line at 1-800-810-BLUE (2583) to find a doctor at your travel destination.
  2. You can also go to Blue National Doctor & Hospital Finder℠ to find a list of participating doctors.

Tip: When you call BlueCard, be sure to tell the representative:

• What health plan you have
• Where you need to receive care
• Type of doctor you need

If you need urgent care while traveling in Michigan, contact:

  1. Your primary care physician will provide the care you need or he or she will direct you to an urgent care center.
  2. You may also call Customer Service or check Find a Doctor to get a list of participating urgent care centers.

For behavioral health services in Michigan, call 1-800-482-5982 (TTY: 1-800-482-5982) for immediate help. Our behavioral health care managers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to evaluate your needs and arrange for services. You don't need a referral from your primary care physician.
