Blue Cross will host the ninth annual, invitation-only safety net symposium for free clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Rural Health Centers, hospitals, public health providers and other safety net health care organizations. The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center in East Lansing, Michigan.

The symposium brings together more than 250 leaders of Michigan’s safety net health care organizations. They’ll learn what is new with policies, programs and partnerships that impact the safety net in Michigan.

Healthy Safety Net 2019 is focused on charting the path to better health in Michigan through innovative partnerships, policies and programs. Featured speakers include:

  • Joneigh Khaldun, MD, Chief Medical Executive, Chief Deputy Director for Health, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services
  • Renuka Tipirneni, MD, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation, University of Michigan Medical School
  • Debra Furr-Holden, Ph.D. Director, Division of Public Health, Associate Dean for Public Health Integration, Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine
  • H. Luke Shaefer, Director of Poverty Solutions, University of Michigan
  • And many more

Opportunities to network with presenters and other safety net providers will be plentiful.

We are pleased to announce that Healthy Safety Net 2019 has been approved for 5.0 continuing education hours by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative-Approval #090319-00. The application for continuing education units for nurses is under review.

In addition, symposium participants may receive a seasonal flu vaccination free of charge, between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
