HHS announces 365,000 individuals enrolled on Health Insurance Marketplace

Dec. 20, 2013

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reported on Dec. 11 that approximately 365,000 Americans selected plans in state and federal Marketplaces during October and November. Enrollment in the federal Marketplace during November was more than four times greater than October’s enrollment.

In addition, about 803,077 applicants were deemed eligible for government-sponsored health care (such as Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Programs).

Michigan alone had 52,780 applications completed through the Marketplace. Of the 74,693 individuals who have been determined eligible for a Marketplace plan, 7,363 have been determined eligible for Medicaid or CHIP and 6,847 individuals have already selected a plan.

Approximately 1.9 million individuals successfully completed the eligibility process, reflected in the first two months of open enrollment, however they had yet to select a plan as of Nov. 30.

HHS advises that this is evidence of promised improvements to HealthCare.gov. Almost 39.1 million visitors have visited the state and federal sites and an estimated 5.2 million calls to the state and federal call centers.
