We’ve created this guide to help you choose the plan that’s right for you. We’ve also included information about our new Blue High Performance Network℠ which is designed to be affordable and effective for many of our members.

Network Overview

Below you’ll find an overview of networks available with your plan choices that your employer is offering for your upcoming health benefits enrollment. Check with your Meijer Rewards benefit counselor or Blue Cross customer service for more information about your plan choices.

Plan overview

Blue High Performance Network, or BlueHPN, is a new network of providers committed to affordable, quality care for you and your family. With BlueHPN you’ll have in-network provider access where you live and work. You’ll also be able to see other BlueHPN providers across the country. You’re covered within BlueHPN without referrals.

Where you’re covered

The BlueHPN network includes providers in more than 50 major metro areas, giving you access to a full range of primary care physicians, specialists and hospitals to meet your and your family’s needs. No matter where you are in the U.S., you’ll also have emergency, urgent care and telehealth services through Blue Cross Online VisitsSM or your BlueHPN provider, if available.

BlueHPN does not include any out-of-network coverage so it’s important that you know if your current providers are within the BlueHPN network. You can use our online search to find BlueHPN providers and to see if your current providers are in the BlueHPN network.

Who should consider this network?

You should consider this network if:
  • You don’t travel often for medical care outside of the BlueHPN service areas
  • You prefer a lower-cost plan option
  • You’re willing to potentially switch providers to stay in-network and save money

If you live in Wisconsin and are considering a plan with the BlueHPN Network, call a Meijer benefits counselor for more information.

How do I know if BlueHPN is right for me?

When it comes to picking the right plan for you and your family, it can be difficult to know where to start. Use the questions below to help guide your decision making by selecting Yes or No.

Do I frequently travel for work or leisure?

If your travels frequently take you outside the major metropolitan areas covered by BlueHPN, a plan with the wide-reaching PPO network may be best for you.

The BlueHPN network focuses on doctors and facilities within major metropolitan areas. If you tend to stay within these areas and don't plan to travel for healthcare, BlueHPN may be a good choice for you.

Is my current doctor in the HPN network or am I willing to change to an HPN doctor?

If your current doctor is in the BlueHPN or you’re willing to change to a BlueHPN provider, then the BlueHPN network may work best for you. BlueHPN partners with excellent local providers committed to quality care at a lower cost.

If your current doctor is not part of BlueHPN and you don’t want to change providers, then BlueHPN might not be the right choice for you. Other plans may allow you to keep your current doctor, but you may pay higher costs to stay in those plans.

Need to see if your doctor is in the BlueHPN network?

Is the flexibility of a broad network most important to you?

If the freedom of choosing a provider from a broad network or keeping your current non-HPN providers is most important to you, then HPN may not be right for you at this time.

If you are willing to choose quality HPN providers to save on costs then BlueHPN might be the option for you.

Do any of my dependents live out of town?

If your dependents live away from home and outside of a BlueHPN metro area, you may want to consider other plan options. However, many HPN providers offer telehealth services, as does Blue Cross Online VisitsSM.

BlueHPN utilizes local providers to save you money while giving you access to quality care. Since your dependents are all local, the BlueHPN network may work best for you.

Is BlueHPN right for me?

Here are some important things to remember about BlueHPN:

  • You’ll have access to quality care with local providers at a lower cost
  • You won’t need to get a referral to see a specialist
  • No matter where you are in the U.S., you’ll also have emergency, urgent care and telehealth services through Blue Cross Online VisitsSM or your BlueHPN provider, if available.
  • BlueHPN does not have any out-of-network coverage. If you see a provider outside of the network, you’ll be responsible for paying all related costs.
