HCPCS replacement codes established, effective Jan. 1, 2024

J0184 replaces C9399, J3490, J3590, J9999 and C9153 when billing for Barhemsys^® (amisulpride)

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has established a permanent procedure code for specialty medical drug Barhemsys (amisulpride).

Services can continue to be reported with C9153, J3490, J3590, C9399 and J9999 through Dec. 31, 2023. All services performed on and after Jan. 1, 2024, must be reported with J0184.

J0576 replaces C9399, J3490, J3590, J9999 and C9154 when billing for Brixadi^® (buprenorphine extended-release)

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, CMS has established a permanent procedure code for specialty medical drug Brixadi (buprenorphine extended-release).

Services can continue to be reported with C9154, J3490, J3590, C9399 and J9999 through Dec. 31, 2023. All services performed on and after Jan. 1, 2024, must be reported with J0576.

J0402 replaces C9399, J3490, J3590, J9999 and C9152 when billing for Abilify Asimtufii^® (aripiprazole)

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, CMS has established a permanent procedure code for specialty medical drug Abilify Asimtufii (aripiprazole).

All services through Dec. 31, 2023, will continue to be reported with code C9152, C9399, J3490, J3590 and J9999. All services performed on and after Jan. 1, 2024, must be reported with J0402.

J1304 replaces C9399, J3490, J3590, J9999 and C9157 when billing for Qalsody^® (tofersen)

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, CMS has established a permanent procedure code for specialty medical drug Qalsody (tofersen).

All services through Dec. 31, 2023, will continue to be reported with code C9157, C9399, J3490, J3590 and J9999. All services performed on and after Jan. 1, 2024, must be reported with J1304.

Prior authorization is required through the Medical Benefit Drug Program for J1304 for all groups unless they are opted out of the program.

For groups that have opted out of the Medical Benefit Drug Program, this service requires manual review.

J2799 replaces C9399, J3490, J3590, J9999 and C9158 when billing for Uzedy^® (risperidone)

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, CMS has established a permanent procedure code for specialty medical drug Uzedy (risperidone).

Services can continue to be reported with C9399, J3490, J3590, J9999 and C9158 through Dec. 31, 2023. All services performed on and after Jan. 1, 2024, must be reported with J2799.

J9321 replaces C9399, J3490, J3590, J9999 and C9155 when billing for Epkinly^® (epcoritamab-bysp)

Effective Jan. 1, 2024, CMS has established a permanent procedure code for specialty medical drug Epkinly (epcoritamab-bysp).

Services can continue to be reported with C9399, J3490, J3590, J9999 and C9155 through Dec. 31, 2023. All services performed on and after Jan. 1, 2024, must be reported with J9321.
