New digital tools help members navigate their plans
Over the years, doctors have urged us to do a better job of educating members about their Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network plans. When doctors or staff members have to explain to patients the details of their plans, it takes time away from their core business: treating patients.
That’s one reason we’ve created a wide range of digital tools to help patients navigate their plans. These tools are available when they log in to their account at bcbsm.com and through our new Blue Cross mobile app.** These resources allow patients to:
- Track claims and explanation of benefits.
- Verify coverage.
- Share important information with you. (For example, they can email or text their ID card directly to you.)
- Research the cost of services and procedures to find the most affordable options.
- Find in-network care when they need it.
- Select a primary care physician (required for BCN and Blue Cross® Physician Choice PPO members).
- Use Blue Cross® Health & Wellness programs to track their health risks and discover ways to live healthier. (To learn more about these programs, see the article in the May-June issue of Hospital and Physician Update.
Our digital tools are especially helpful when patients have billing questions or needs to know his or her:
- Enrollee ID number
- Customer Service phone numbers
- List of current prescriptions
- Copayment amounts for office, urgent care or emergency room visits
Help us spread the word
To help spread the word to patients about our new app, we’ve created a mobile app kit that health care providers can use. It includes postcards for patients, a stand to hold the postcards and a poster. If you haven’t received your kit or want an additional one, contact your provider consultant and let them know what you need.
**For iOS 9.0.0. or Android 4.4.2 or better.
