Hospital Pay for Performance Program
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has two hospital pay-for-performance programs. One program is designed for large and medium-sized acute care hospitals. The other program is designed specifically for small rural hospitals.
Pay-for-Performance for large and medium sized hospitals (peer groups 1 – 4)
The BCBSM Hospital Pay-for-Performance program rewards large and medium-sized hospitals for achievements in both quality and efficiency. Through this program, a top-performing hospital can earn up to an additional 5 percent of its inpatient and outpatient operating payments.

Pay-for-Performance for small rural hospitals (peer group 5)
The peer group 5 Pay-for-Performance program is designed specifically for small rural hospitals. This program is being phased in over several years and rewards hospitals that provide access to high-quality health care services within their community. Once it is fully implemented, the program will determine six percentage points of reimbursement for small, rural hospitals.
