How Can I Get Care While Traveling With Medicare Advantage?

Sometimes you can predict when you'll need a doctor while traveling. Sometimes you can’t. If you have a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Medicare Advantage plan, here's what you need to know.

Traveling within Michigan

For a life-threatening or urgent injury or illiness, go to the nearest hospital or urgent care center. You'll be covered and just have to pay in-network costs with all Medicare Advantage plans.

Traveling outside of Michigan within the U.S.

For emergency or urgent care, you can see any doctor or go to the nearest hospital that accepts Medicare. You'll be covered and just have to pay in-network costs.

Traveling outside of the U.S.

Plans offer limited care when travelling outside of the U.S. and its territories. This is limited to emergency care, urgent care and emergency transportation.
