What's an Approved Autism Evaluation Center?

Approved Autism Evaluation Centers, or AAECs, are facilities that have applied for this designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network. We confirm that they meet criteria developed in partnership with the Michigan behavioral health care provider community.

Some of the things we require:

  • The AAEC must be part of an academic medical center or a hospital-based facility that is in our network.
  • The AAEC must use a multidisciplinary approach by specialists with significant experience diagnosing and treating autism.
  • These specialists must include a board-certified pediatrician, developmental pediatrician or pediatric neurologist; a fully licensed pediatric neuropsychologist, board-certified child psychiatrist or fully licensed child psychologist; and a speech and language therapist.

Here's our list of Approved Autism Evaluation Centers (PDF).
