When will my new coverage start?

Your coverage starts on your effective date. For example, if your effective date is April 1, your plan will begin paying for covered services on that day.

Your effective date depends on how you apply for insurance.

  • Online application: your effective date will be approximately 14 days after we approve your application.
  • Application by mail or fax: your effective date will be the billing cycle date closest to the day you applied, one month after you applied. Our billing cycle opens on the 1st and 15th of every month. So, if you applied on May 3, your effective date will be June 15. If you applied on Oct. 20, your effective date will be Nov. 1.

If you're transferring from one of our employer-sponsored plans to an individual plan, your effective date will be the first day of the billing cycle after your coverage through your employer ends, either the 1st or 15th of the month.
