What's the Federal Poverty Level?
The Federal Poverty Level is calculated by the Census Bureau using average income data. It’s used to determine who is in poverty.
For example, for 2012, the range for the Federal Poverty Level is approximately $11,170 to $44,700 for individuals, or $23,050 to $92,200 for a family of four.
