What if I can't afford to buy health insurance?
There may be financial help available for you. You might be eligible for premium assistance if:
- You buy coverage on the Exchange
- Your income is between 100 and 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level
- You don’t have access to other health care coverage
You can also get lower deductibles, coinsurance, copays or maximum out-of-pocket costs if:
- The coverage you buy on the exchange will pay 70 percent of your medical costs
- Your income is between 100 and 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Level
- You don’t have access to other health care coverage
The government will also help you pay for your health insurance premium with tax credits and subsidies. To estimate how much help you’ll receive, use our tax credit calculator.
The government will be expanding Medicaid, the program that provides low-income families with health insurance. You can qualify for Medicaid if your income is less than 133 percent of the federal poverty level. For more about the upcoming changes, read our Medicaid reform alert.
