How can I find out if my doctor is in my plan's network?

Who is this for?

Michigan Health Insurance – Customer Service – Learn More

If you purchase your own health coverage, this information will help you find out if your doctor participates with the plan you have or want to buy.

Not all doctors participate in every network. So if you want to go to a specific doctor, it's important to make sure they're in your plan's network. You can do that using our Find a Doctor tool. We have a few tips to get you started.

Blue Care Network HMO networks: Preferred, Select, Metro Detroit HMO and Partnered plans

Primary care physicians are key to having an HMO plan. They're your first contact for care. They also refer you to specialists when necessary.

You can use our Find a Doctor tool to see if your current doctor is a designated primary care physician who accepts this plan. Or, you can search for a new primary care physician.

When you're in the tool, start by selecting I want to find a Primary Care Physician. When you get to Step 2:

  • Please select your plan: Choose the first option, Individual and Family plans.
  • Please select your subplan: Choose your plan from the dropdown list

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan PPO networks: Premier and Multi-State plans

With a PPO plan, you can choose any doctor you want, both in- and out-of-network, and still be covered. But you’ll pay less when you go to a health care professional or facility in our network.

When you're in the tool, you can start by selecting I want to find doctors or hospitals. When you get to Step 2:

  • Please select your plan: Choose the first option, Individual and Family plans.
  • Please select your subplan: Choose your plan from the dropdown list, either Blue Cross Multi-State Plan (PPO) or Blue Cross Premier (PPO).

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan EPO networks: Metro Detroit EPO plans

With an EPO plan, you can see the doctors you want without any referrals as long as they're in the plan network. There's no out-of-network coverage except in an emergency.

When you're in the tool, start by selecting I want to find doctors or hospitals. When you get to Step 2:

  • Please select your plan: Choose the first option, Individual and Family plans.
  • Please select your subplan: Choose Blue Cross Metro Detroit EPO from the dropdown list.

Are you a Medicare member or get your health plan through an employer or group?

You can use Find a Doctor to locate doctors and hospitals who accept your plan too. When you're in the tool and reach Step 2:

  • Medicare members should choose Medicare (65 and over) first, then select their subplan.
  • Group members can select their plan from the first dropdown.
