Project FIT

Project FIT volunteers built a playgound to encourage healthy activities for children.

The partnership: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Grand Rapids Public Schools

The place: Grand Rapids

The participants: Students from Campus, Buchanan, Cesar E. Chavez and Dickinson elementary schools, school staff, families and community organizations

The plan: The goal of this $1 million childhood obesity prevention program was to help sustain healthy weight and wellness. Students benefited from:

  • Healthy eating coaches who helped them make better food choices in the school cafeteria
  • Lunch through Literacy events that showed students how to read ingredient labels
  • Health and fitness fairs
  • Parent education sessions
