BCBSM is committed to remain a private, nonprofit company that provides quality, affordable health care to our customers and members. The reason is simple. Once a company becomes for-profit, the top priorities are no longer the customers, members or the people of Michigan. The top priority becomes the shareholders. As part of our commitment to nonprofit health care, BCBSM is a founding member of the Alliance For Advancing Nonprofit Health Care.

Alliance for Advancing Nonprofit Health Care

BCBSM and other member groups believe that nonprofit health care organizations exist to meet the needs of people as well as understand the needs of the communities in which we live.

The Alliance provides a strong and cohesive voice from nonprofit health care organizations through advocacy, public education and research. Alliance objectives include:

• Demonstrate the value of nonprofits to regain public understanding and respect
• Bring better balance to public policy discussions about nonprofit health care
• Help nonprofits enhance their value to society and the communities they serve
