Health Initiatives: Overview
Domestic Violence and Abuse Prevention
The most destructive type of abuse occurs in the home. More than 47,000 cases of domestic violence occur each year. One in three women report being physically or sexually abused at one point in their lives.
The Blues continue to work toward eliminating domestic violence and its impact on families and communities by:
- Equipping countless domestic violence survivors with cell phones for emergencies through our cell phone donation program
- Producing a teen violence prevention educational video
- Developing and implementing tools and training sessions to help medical providers screen for, identify, refer and document suspected incidents of domestic abuse
- Providing free educational awareness materials for women, teens, and seniors.
- Educating thousands of school children about healthy relationships, safety planning and conflict resolution
- Funding grant programs to raise awareness of elder abuse and neglect statewide
- Supporting operational efforts and playing a leadership role in establishing sexual assault forensic examiner clinics for victims of sexual assault and rape
