Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is the trade association for
the independent, locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans. Licensed
by the association, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is able to sell products
and services under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield names. As an independent licensee of the association, BCBSM is required to convey the following disclosure statements:
- The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association licenses BCBSM to offer certain products and services under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield names.
- BCBSM is an independent organization governed by its own board of directors and solely responsible for its own debts and other obligations. Neither the association nor any other organization using the Blue Cross or Blue Shield brands acts as a guarantor of BCBSM’s obligations.
- By April 15 of each year, BCBSM must file an annual report with the Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services. A full copy of the most recent audited financial statement is available upon request at BCBSM's corporate headquarters.
