MyBlue Medigap℠ guarantee issue period information

2014 plan information

Insurance companies are required by law to offer a Medigap policy without conditions or constraints on coverage to individuals who meet certain requirements. A member may be in the 'guarantee issue period' for MyBlue Medigap if they're new to Medicare, or losing Medicare coverage due to certain situations. The following scenarios qualify individuals for the guarantee issue period:

Are 65 years of age AND first enrolled for benefits under Medicare Part B. Is the six-month period beginning with the first month in which you first enrolled for benefits under Part B.
Were enrolled in Employee Welfare plan and employer group terminated coverage. Begins on the date the you receive a notice of termination of group health benefits or, if a notice is not received, notice that a claim has been denied because of a termination or cessation, or the date that the applicable coverage terminates or ceases, whichever occurs later, and ends 63 days after that date.
Were enrolled in Medicare Advantage Plan and the certification of the organization or plan was terminated. Begins on the date that you receive a notice of termination and ends 63 days after the date the applicable coverage is terminated.
Were enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and the plan terminated and/or discontinued providing coverage in the area in which the individual resides. Begins on the date that you receive a notice of termination and ends 63 days after the date the applicable coverage is terminated.
Were enrolled in Medicare Advantage Plan and moved out of the service area and are no longer eligible to participate in the plan. Begins on the date that you receive a notice of termination and ends 63 days after the date the applicable coverage is terminated.
Were enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and voluntarily disenrolled because the plan substantially violated a material provision of the organization's contract in relation to the individual, including the failure to provide an enrollee on a timely basis medically necessary care for which benefits are available under the plan or the failure to provide covered care in accordance with applicable quality standards, or the organization, or agent or other entity acting on the organization's behalf, materially misrepresented the plan's provisions in marketing the plan to the individual. Begins on the date that is 60 days before the effective date of the disenrollment and ends on the date that is 63 days after the effective date.
Were enrolled in a Medigap policy and involuntarily lost coverage due to insolvency of the insurer or bankruptcy of the organization offering the coverage. Begins on the earlier of the date that you receive a notice of termination, a notice of the issuer's bankruptcy or insolvency, or other such similar notice, if any, or the date that the applicable coverage is terminated, and ends on the date that is 63 days after the date the coverage is terminated.
Were enrolled in a Medigap plan and voluntarily disenrolled because the plan violated a material provision of the policy or the insurer materially misrepresented the policy's provisions in marketing the policy to the individual. Begins on the date that is 60 days before the effective date of the disenrollment and ends on the date that is 63 days after the effective date.
Were enrolled under a Medicare supplement policy and terminated enrollment and subsequently enrolled, for the first time, in a Medicare Advantage plan, and the subsequent enrollment is terminated by the enrollee within the first 12 months. Begins on the date that is 60 days before the effective date of the disenrollment and ends on the date that is 63 days after the effective date.
Were enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and voluntarily disenrolled from the plan within 12 months after the effective date of enrollment, upon first becoming eligible for benefits under part A of Medicare at age 65. Begins on the date that is 60 days before the effective date of the disenrollment and ends on the date that is 63 days after the effective date.

MyBlue Medigap offers access to any hospital, doctor or other health care provider in the U.S. or its territories that accepts Medicare assignment. The plan does not require members to use a specified provider network. MyBlue Medigap is a Medigap plan administered by Blue Care Network. Certain factors may affect the monthly premium cost: geographic location of the applicant’s residence, age, gender, height, weight and whether the applicant uses tobacco. Neither Blue Care Network nor agents authorized to sell Blue Care Network policies are connected with Medicare.
