Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation is the arm of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan that funds research and programs to improve health care in Michigan.
We give approximately $2.75 million a year in grants to support researchers and nonprofit community organizations as they work to improve health care in Michigan. Our programs build community solutions to critical health care problems, acknowledge excellence in research and support medical and doctoral students interested in health care.
None of our money comes from the premium payments of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan members. We’re funded through an endowment from Michigan doctors in 1983 and from the proceeds of a prescription drug class action lawsuit settlement.
We focus our grants on three priorities:
- Quality and cost of care
- Access to care
- Community health
We’re proud of what researchers and doctors have accomplished because of our support. Check out the list of published research based on work funded by our grants.
