Detroit —Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy are asking Michiganders to share how they Live the RiverFront this summer. Live the Riverfront, a multi-year partnership between BCBSM and the Conservancy, launched early May to promote physical fitness and healthy living through a series of free activities along the riverfront. Residents can share their experiences and pictures from their summer on the RiverFront on aHealthierMichigan.org through July 21. Many will be featured on the Blues’ social channels throughout the week.
For the past two months, those who live, work and play in Southeast Michigan have been able to take advantage of free Live the Riverfront programming, including:
- Walk the RiverWalk Wednesdays — Employees use their lunch breaks, or free time, on Wednesdays to walk the riverfront, logging their activity on an online portal. For every third check-in, they receive a BCBSM-branded health-related prize. Participants who check-in eight times or more, are entered into a drawing of RiverFront Conservancy prizes, including memberships, engraved waterfront paver bricks and tickets to the organization’s annual fundraising gala. This initiative continues through August 27.
- Weekly fitness classes — Urban Solace leads a free yoga classes on Thursdays at 6 p.m. and on Fridays at 9 a.m. Free T’ai Chi classes are held Monday mornings at 10 a.m. Classes will continue to be held weekly through August and no registration is necessary.
Other things to do on the RiverFront include segway tours, jazz nights, movies in Chene Park and an early literacy program for children. For a full calendar of events, visit detroitriverfront.org/things-to-do.
