Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan hosts education sessions throughout southeast Michigan to help consumers understand the changes and affects of the ACA

Sept. 30, 2013

WHAT:

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is hosting a number of community education sessions throughout the month of October to help consumers understand the affects and impacts of the Affordable Care Act. The session will outline the basics of the ACA, including subsidy eligibility, ways to access affordable, quality care, and resources to help consumers learn more about the law. Blue Cross representatives will provide materials and resources to enable attendees to better prepare for coming change. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the presentation.

All education sessions are open to the entire community, and will provide guidance to the uninsured who are not Medicaid or Medicare eligible.

WHY:

The health care industry is undergoing its biggest change since Medicare, nearly 50 years ago, and the changes will affect everyone. In a recent survey from the Kaiser Foundation of more than 1,200 customers, 57 percent of Americans said they still don’t have enough information to understand how reform will affect them1

Access of care is broadening, mandatory benefits are expanding, and costs are shifting. Beginning on Oct. 1, the Marketplace will change the way people buy insurance. Lower income families and individuals may qualify for government assistance but first they must properly fill out an in-depth, 12 page application form.

Health care reform is complicated. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan wants Michigan residents to understand how this transformation will affect their personal lives and what action steps they need to take to prepare themselves. Attendees will leave with resources that will facilitate their transition into the new marketplace and help them make the best choice for their families.
