Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan offers 'tons' of help to customers
Award-winning Win by Losing weight-loss competition is back for round six
February 27, 2012
DETROIT — In five seasons of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's Win by Losing program, 111 companies from across Michigan have participated, and have lost over 28,000 pounds. That's over 14 tons of weight – equivalent to a school bus. The Blues kicked off season six Feb. 20, with participants expected to engage in nine weeks of health, wellness and weight loss, with the hope of adding to the program's already impressive weight loss totals. Over its short tenure, Win by Losing has proven itself to be a life-changing opportunity for Blue Cross customers, and back-to-back divisional winner TGI Direct agrees.
"Our TGI Direct team thrives on challenges, and we also care deeply about our people," said Doug Bacon, CEO of TGI Direct. "The competition gave us an opportunity to focus attention on healthier lifestyles and gave some staff members the incentive they needed to take off a few extra pounds. We know that they feel better. We appreciate Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for providing the challenge, and we hope to win for our division in the next round."
Year after year, the program continues to be successful, engaging more people in taking ownership of their health. Participating groups are seeing the benefits Win by Losing brings to the workplace.
"The Win by Losing program helped me lose weight," said Betsy Christianson, account manager at TGI Direct. "I watched what I was eating, I used the recipes provided by BCBSM, I exercised and – most of all – I used the support of my associates to stay on track."
Over 5,000 people have been involved in the competition since its 2009 inception, with this number expected to grow when season six gets under way.
To register for season six, BCBSM customers can visit the Win by Losing website and, once registered, are encouraged to use the tools available throughout the competition. There is no registration fee to enter, and all details can be managed online.
