DETROIT — BCBSM was one of 10 companies with 1,000 or more employees designated as a Crain’s Detroit Business Cool Places to Work on Sept. 5. The business publication partnered with the American Society of Employers to identify employers who have created work environments that attract and retain quality workers.

Companies are recognized annually for their effective work-life initiatives, talent management, employee communications, work environment, recruitment and employee activities, and compensation programs. Crain’s will hold an event in November to celebrate the cool programs and initiatives of winning organizations.

"To be competitive, we need engaged employees who like their jobs and accept personal responsibility for doing them well," said Cathy Goheen, vice president of Human Resources at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. "Judging by these recognitions, we're moving in the right direction. We’re committed to creating work environments that are conducive to a productive, happy work force."

According to Jorie Wyatt, a senior community responsibility representative in BCBSM’s Community Responsibility department, Blue Cross is the place to work. “Our culture exemplifies dedication, commitment to excellence and endless talent. This impressed me 10 years ago when I started working here,” she said. “I still remain in awe of how our Blues family plays such an integral role in the success of our company and how we service our communities throughout the state.”

At the end of the month, BCBSM will also be saluted by the Michigan Business and Professional Association as one of the 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For.
