August 17, 2011

DETROIT — Adding more than 15 new vendor partners so far this year, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network’s revolutionary Healthy Blue Xtras program continues to grow and provide savings for all BCBSM and BCN members. Since the program began in February 2010, it has expanded to almost 80 offers from retail partners throughout the state and the country.

Healthy Blue Xtras offers exclusive discounts on health-related products and services that members use every day. Offers are available from more than 50 Michigan-based companies, which encourages members to buy local and contributes to the Michigan economy. In addition, members have almost 30 offers available from national companies through our national savings program, Blue365®.

“Healthy Blue Xtras is a perfect fit for all that the Blues represent,” said Kathryn Levine, vice president of Corporate Marketing and Customer Experience. “Through the program, we’re able to support local businesses while reinforcing the importance of healthy living and creating added value for our members. It’s our way of saying thank you for being a Blues member.”

Some of the current Healthy Blue Xtras partners include the Detroit Zoo®, Westborn Market, Fitness USA®, Detroit Science Center, Plum Market®, English Gardens, Vitamin Village, Shanty Creek Resorts®, the Michigan Athletic Club and Yoga Shelter™.

Our partners are pleased with the Healthy Blue Xtras program.

“We’re happy to participate in the Healthy Blue Xtras program and support anything that encourages the health and well-being of children and families,” said Rick Friday, marketing director at the Detroit Zoological Society.

Healthy Blue Xtras offers BCBSM and BCN members a wide array of savings from businesses such as grocery stores, fitness equipment dealers, gyms, restaurants and more. Members can access information about available discounts at the Healthy Blue Extras website. A simple registration on the website is all that’s required for members to begin using the program. Once registered, members can view names of all participating retailers, which are updated monthly. To redeem the special offers, members need to show their insurance card or purchase online. Members can also take a health assessment, research hospitals, compare medication options, participate in online health coaching programs and more once they register on the website.
