Blues show support for American Heart Month

Jan. 27, 2010

DETROIT - Throughout the month of February, two giant heart-shaped displays will light up the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan office building in downtown Detroit. The Blues created the display to show support for American Heart Month. On Feb. 5, the American Heart Association's National Wear Red Day, Blues employees will show their support by wearing red.

The 12-story-high display will light up both sides of the Michigan Blues building on East Lafayette near I-375 in the "heart" of downtown Detroit.

National Wear Red Day is part of the AHA's Go Red for Women campaign that seeks to empower women of all ages to live healthier, longer lives by taking proper care of their hearts.

"Heart disease is the number one cause of death among American women," says Equilla Wainwright, vice president of Diversity and Community Responsibility. "The Blues' awareness campaign serves as a reminder that women must be aware of the risks associated with this deadly disease." By joining the Go Red for Women campaign, women can receive a red dress pin symbolizing heart health awareness and can participate in the "Choose to Move" program.
